4/19/2013

The University of Skövde has gone from a low position to one of the top ranked universities in the Environmental Protection Agency's annual report, "Environmental management in central government agencies".

In 2010 the University did not have a sustainability policy and the energy consumption was high. Since then, the University has introduced an environmental management system and has taken action to e.g. lower the energy consumption. The University has climbed in the rankings from 2 points (out of 15 possible) in 2010, to 14 points in 2012 - resulting in a second place in the rankings.

- We have investigated our environmental impact and we have introduced a systematic way of working with environmental management. In addition, we have decided on a sustainability policy, says Lars Nord, campus director at the University of Skövde.

New in this year's ranking is that the Environmental Protection Agency also makes a quality assessment of the governmental agencies environmental policy, environmental objectives and how they work to meet the goals. Also in this ranking is the University of Skövde is very high compared to many other universities in Sweden.

- We try to work with sustainability in an open, innovative and caring way. Engaging employees and students in sustainability matters is important. Therefore, we will continue to work with sustainability issues throughout the business, says Lars.
