This programme gives you the prerequisites for a leading role in the future smart factory where digitisation and virtual tools affect the daily work of both supervisors and operators.

      About the programme

In the future smart factory, digitalisation will not be limited to machine equipment and production systems, but also greatly affect the daily work of both management and operators. The machine and production equipment will be designed, constructed, launched and run based on models, simulations and optimisations using artificial intelligence and other advanced computer technologies. High demands on productivity and deliveries are today a matter of course in modern industry, while business and sustainable development are natural elements in all activities.

For many years, the use of computerised engineering tools and virtual technologies has increased. There is nothing to suggest that the trend will slow or reduce. On the contrary the future manufacturing system will be characterised by a higher degree of intelligent technology realised through autonomous, connected and smart components.

      The Focus of Your Studies

The Intelligent Automation Master's programme focuses on the skills and technologies that tomorrow's engineers will need to meet the challenges of the future. Through the Master's programme, you are expected to gain a basic view of the relationship between production technology, industrial automation and information technology. The Intelligent Automation Master's programme gives you the knowledge to work with machine and production equipment in the smart factory using virtual tools.

The programme contains courses and material that includes regulatory technology, digital twins, product and process data management, as well as the philosophies of industrial systems and systems thinking.

      Internationalization

This Master’s Programme in Intelligent Automation is structured so that the students can engage in studies both in Sweden and at partner universities worldwide. As is common with the Master’s level education in Skövde, and to further support the international nature of this program, the courses, laboratories and assignments are all conducted in English. Support to individual students can be conducted in either English or Swedish.

The programme is designed with the possibility of studying 1 semester abroad to read related courses within the knowledge area or to do the thesis abroad.

      Upon Completion of Your Studies

The programme prepares you for a career within development of complex machine and production systems and decision support systems either in the consulting industry or at a manufacturing company. Possible career roles are Automation Expert, Systems Engineer or taking responsibility for the technical operation of a production line.

The programme also provides a good foundation for further postgraduate studies in the field of Information Technology.

      Study abroad
