This course gives an overview of film history with an emphasis on the interplay between the development of cinematic narratives and technology. How has the 20th century been told through cinema? What technologies have been used? How have filmmakers used props, mise-en-scene and shooting location to tell their stories? What is unique in the storytelling of cinema in comparison to other media? The course will make explicit references to game development and interactive storytelling as part of the historical film analysis.
