Programme introduction
The programme introduction will take place on Monday 2nd of September, 10:15 to 12:00, in room A103, house A.
You will be introduced to the program structure and fall courses. There will be time for questions etc.
What happens this fall?
The program starts with two parallel courses:
ME722A, Narrative in New Media as an Area of Research A1N, 7.5 credits (Stefan Ekman), allows you to create an overview of the research area; its theories and concepts in the field of media art, aesthetics and narration. The course discusses issues of media production and consumption; text, user/audience, purpose and production in various media.
The theories can with advantage be connected to the project starting in the parallel course ME724A Academic Perspectives on Digital Narration and Transmedia A1N, 7.5 credits (Lars Vipsjö). Central to this course is a design moment that you can carry out with/for an external part, or after your own idea. These two first courses will be a platform for the work in the semester´s third course, ME725A (lead by Lissa Holloway Attaway).
Career opportunities
The knowledge sector within the field of digital narration: such as game development, natural and cultural heritage and tourism industry, is in a state of continual development. In line with rapidly increasing access to digital techniques, there is a corresponding increase in the need for qualified digital narrators. Depending on what you have studied in your earlier basic studies, you could in the future, for example, work in a company with gamification applications or with developing digital storytelling at a museum.
Independent studies
University studies mean both great freedom and great responsibility. The schedule for teacher-led teaching often varies from course to course and week to week. You are expected to plan and set up your studies, especially in non-teacher-led time, so that the total study time corresponds to a full-time job. Your studies and study results are very much based on your own responsibility and we at the University do our best to offer you good teaching and a pleasant study atmosphere so that you can succeed and enjoy your studies as well as possible.
Contact
If you have any questions you can always contact me by email or phone. I’m looking forward to seeing you at the programme introduction!
