Student Ambassador Fares Mohamed Elsayed Ahmed Ibrahim

Fares comes from Egypt, is studying Molecular Biotechnology, and appreciates that one major advantage of the University of Skövde is the opportunity to get to know the teachers well.

      Fares' thoughts about Skövde

Where do you come from originally?
      – I originally come from Egypt, Alexandria to be specific.

How is it to study in Skövde?
      – It is very calm. I have had a plenty of time to relax and enjoy the nature.

Why did you choose to study this program?
      – Originally, it aligned pretty well with my field of interest, drug discovery. However, currently my plans shifted towards being a bioinformatician.

What is the biggest advantage of studying at a small school like the University of Skövde?
      – You really get to develop a strong relation with your professors. As each professors knows the students very well which makes the education process extra productive.

What do you want to do for work in five years?
      – I really aspire to be part of grand projects concerning genomics, such as the Human Protein Atlas. I aspire to leverage what I have learnt to further unravel new mechanisms by which our genes operate.

What tips would you offer a new student?
      – Just take it easy and step by step. Everything will fall in place in the right time.

What is the best thing about the University of Skövde?
      – I really like how it is being located right in the centre of the city next to the GYM, the KB, and the cafes. I also adore the library; it is where I get the most productive.

What is the best thing about Skövde?
      – It is a lovely and warm city with a welcoming atmosphere especially for international students. I fell like everyone is ready to hel as soon as I tell them I came here to study.

What did you know about Sweden before you moved here?
      – Fika, wonderful music, cold and long winters, and the aurora.

What was the biggest surprise to you about being a student here?
      – The culture is really diverse. I feel like I am interacting with all the ethnicities and nationalities on a daily basis. At first I thought I will only deal with Swedes, but it turned out to be a much richer experience.

How do you like the student accomodations?
      – I have been to two of them. The first was Hasslum. It was nice with shared kitchen, study, and living rooms. I had the chance to socialise a lot. Now, I moved to Regementsgatan, where I am having my separate student apartment. I feel like I have gotten a bit isolated, but it is indeed a nice place to stay. Overall, the student accomodations that I have been to where nice and equipped with pretty much everything that facilitates students’ lives.

What do you do in your free time?
      – Usually trains at the GYM. I also like to play football at the futsal arranged by the school every Monday.

What is your favorite course you have taken at the University of Skövde?
      – Definitely Bioinformatics with R. I got the chance to build machine learning models and train them to perform classification tasks to my data.

Describe your programme in three words.
      – Precise, updated, and core to the art.
