It is finally here, the board game Sagospelet Skaraborg (The Fairy Game Skaraborg). The board game is based on the stories about Kira's and Luppe's adventures with the old Skaraborg County's magical and mythological creatures in the KLUB book series.
The KLUB books about Kira and Luppe are a children's book series that takes place in old Skaraborg County, where the University of Skövde is situated. Each municipality has its own book with its own mythological being from Swedish folklore. Now the books have also become a board game.
Best story wins
The game is about solving missions by inventing clever and funny stories about treasures and creatures in Skaraborg. The players can invent stories together, or individually. The two different game modes mean that everyone can play in the way that suits them best, perhaps depending on what you like, or how old the players are.
“We have tested the game with museum educators who all liked the competition mode the best, but agreed that if they were to play with their younger children, they would choose the cooperation mode first. If resourceful parents play with their family, it probably goes well to play if the children are as young as four years old,” says Lars Vipsjö, who was project manager for the KLUB project at the University of Skövde.
To support the narration, there is a map of Skaraborg County, which forms the playing board, and playing cards with pictures and exciting information about beings, magic and treasures, linked to different places on the map. The places can be visited in real life and the treasures are actually there to see.

Facts: The KLUB project
The children's book series KLUB is a co-design project designed by researchers and students at the Division of Game Development at the University of Skövde, together with educators and visitor destination developers in the municipalities of Skaraborg. Publisher is Lokrantz publishing house in Lidköping.
Behind the idea of a board game where the players tell tales of magical creatures and treasures is the idea of creatively passing on both the tangible and intangible cultural heritage. A playful way to take up and renew an ancient storytelling tradition.
