Searching for articles
At your place of work, find out if you have access to scientific material. Within hospitals and regions there are often journals and databases in medicine and nursing. Authorities and companies sometimes have subscribed-based services that employees have access to.
In the library's database list, there are databases that do not require a login. Some material in the open databases is freely available. Look out for filtering options such as 'open', 'open access', 'free full text' or similar.
In PubMed (external link) you can search for articles within medicine, nursing, odontology, epidemiology and related areas. The database is freely available and some articles are freely accessible.
The ERIC database (external link) contains material within pedagogy and education. The database is freely available for searching with free accessibility to some articles.
DBLP Computer Science Bibliography (external link) is a database within computer science that is freely available for searches. Some material is available in full-text.
LibSearch (external link) is a joint search database that retrieves from several databases simultaneously. LibSearch is freely available for searching, but if you are not a student or employee of the University of Skövde, you will not be able to access all full text.
DOAJ (external link) is an interdisciplinary database that indexes journals and articles from journals that are freely available and do not require subscription.
SwePub (external link) contains material that is published by researchers at Swedish university colleges, universities, institutions, organisations and authorities. Some of the material is freely available in full text.
Google Scholar (external link) is an interdisciplinary search engine from Google focussing on scientific material. Google Scholar is freely available for searches and some of the material is freely accessible.
Searching for books
In LIBRIS (external link) you can search for books that are available at Swedish university libraries, university college libraries and also public libraries.
Books available at the University of Skövde Library can be searched for in LibSearch (external link). The university library is open to everyone, and you do not need to be a student to borrow printed books.
In the catalogue for Bibliotek Mellansjö (external link) you can search for books from the public libraries in Gullspång, Hjo, Karlsborg, Mariestad, Skövde, Tibro, Tidaholm and Töreboda.
Guides for information searching
In the Canvas course Library Search Guide (external link), you can revise your knowledge in information searching and evaluation of material. The course is freely available.
Each database usually has its own guidelines for use of the database. A general introduction to search techniques is available on the library webpage Searching: tips and strategies.
If, at your work place, you have access to librarians or information specialists, ask them when you have questions concerning information searching.
