The project focuses on the electrophysiological correlates of consciousness, and in particular investigates the auditory awareness negativity (AAN), the visual awareness negativity (VAN), and late positivity (LP), which all are event-related potential (ERP) waves and the main electrophysiological candidates for being robust correlates of perceptual consciousness.
The project also tests empirically theories of consciousness, such as the Global Neuronal Workspace theory and the Recurrent Processing theory. Furthermore, it combines the research lines from different sensory modalities, which were previously separated, by investigating modality-specific and modality-general correlates for simultaneous audio-visual stimuli.
This is the PhD project of Dmitri Filimonov, supervised by professor Antti Revonsuo.
