Peace of mind and mental well-being

      Quick Facts

      Full project name

Peace of mind and mental well-being

      Duration

      January 2021 – Ongoing

      Funding and collaboration

Åbo University, Curtin University, Stanford University, The University of Western Australia, University of Bergen

The research project examines Peace of Mind (PoM) as a central yet often overlooked aspect of mental well-being.

Mental health is not merely the absence of mental illness but also the presence of mental well-being. Current conceptualisations of mental well-being have largely overlooked an important aspect—"Peace of Mind" (PoM)—despite its predictive value for key outcomes such as anxiety and depression.

The project addresses the following questions:

      • How is PoM linked to (adaptive and maladaptive) emotional regulation and mental health in a broader sense?
      • What psychological and neurobiological mechanisms underlie PoM?
      • How do psychedelic experiences influence PoM?

The project is conducted in collaboration with James J. Gross (Stanford University), Antti Revonsuo (University of Skövde/University of Turku), David A. Preece (Curtin University, The University of Western Australia), Henry Railo (University of Turku), and Simone Grassini (University of Bergen).
