Skaraborg needs to transition to meet the welfare challenge, the industrial transformation, and the goal of a more sustainable development. Achieving this requires many different efforts that many different actors also carry out at various levels in a complex puzzle. The "Network City Skaraborg" strategy contains proposals on how this can be achieved.
In the project, we work in three parallel work packages (Network meta governance + digital models + cultural development). It is in the work package WP2 "Digital models" that the University of Skövde directly contributes with a broad transdisciplinary approach.
Gary Linnéusson and Tehseen Aslam from the University of Skövde are driving forces together with Magnus Fredricson, Strategist at the Skaraborg Municipal Association nd industrial doctoral student enrolled at the University of Skövde.
In WP2, we work together in a large research team to increase the conditions for achieving the project goals in step 1. WP2 aims to identify the requirements for future digital models to be developed to assist in strategic regional development. With such future decision support, the intention is that a variety of future scenarios can be explored and discussed at the drawing board. Then, major decisions can be made with increased analysis where simulation helps us calculate potential consequences.
With a broad systems approach, we include researchers such as computer scientists, organizational researchers, architects, digitalization experts, and simulation engineers to approach the challenges of reaching Skaraborg's development goals from a system perspective, where housing, energy, and traffic are three major areas explored in step 1.
"The goal is to ask the right questions, and that is what we are trying to do with these competent researchers," says process leader Benny Johansson, who leads the researchers in a series of workshops to utilise the potential of thinking together.
