Abstract for presentation by Dr. Lars Geyer-Blaumeiser:
In the past 20 years, software has become increasingly important for industrial manufacturers, a trend that is expected to continue in the future. At the same time, the share of open source technologies in the software business has increased rapidly. However, while closed software development is considered "daily business", active participation in open source communities is still a fairly new approach for industrial manufacturers.
Recognizing the relevance of open source for its future business, Bosch has increased its open source activities significantly in the last years. Major FOSS platforms, like Eclipse IoT, and open ecosystems, like OpenADx, have been co-initiated together with industry partners. This follows a clear strategy towards openness and collaboration in the future markets like IoT or autonomous driving. Lars Geyer-Blaumeiser offers an overview of the major activities and reveals insights into Bosch’s motivation.
Bio
Lars is software engineer at Bosch Software Innovations GmbH working in an organization that is supporting Open Source efforts within companies.
