Simulation of the future for clinical training

Research Group Production and Automation Engineering
      Resarch Environment Virtual Engineering

      Quick Facts

      Full project name

Framsim - Simulation of the future

      Duration

      January 2020 – September 2022

      Funding and collaboration

      Region Västra Götaland, Skaraborg Hospital

This project wants to test the use of Augmented Reality (AR) to improve the medical simulation by increasing the ability to empathize and provide a better environment for training and learning for the entire trauma team at Skaraborg Hospital in Skövde (SkaS).

Team-based clinical training and medical simulation are used to strengthen knowledge and the competence development of healthcare personnel in order to achieve increased patient safety.

This project wants to test the use of Augmented Reality (AR) to improve the medical simulation by increasing the ability to empathize and provide a better environment for training and learning for the entire trauma team at Skaraborg Hospital in Skövde (SkaS).

The project will develop a physical prototype of an abdomen that can be placed in a simulation doll. AR is then used to visualize internal injuries in the abdomen.

The expected result from the project is a better ability to empathize and a sense of reality, reduced set-up times for preparing simulations, increased teamwork when even surgeons can perform interventions, and increased confidence among the participants.

The effect of this is better care through a better transferability of knowledge from simulation to reality.
